Her eyes opened, changing her perception and- most importantly- making her realise that there is a future.
Understanding that there is a future made possible to try to make it better. This inevitably caused an explosion of knowledge and opportunity.
But there was a price to be paid. It was only possible by sacrificing the present. And that was the only thing she had.
